BRASSERIE LA LUMA
A micro-brewery on a sheep farmDescription
Simon calls himself a 'peasant brewer' which sounds better in French!
What he means is traditional, as his farm produces all the ingredients for his beer and they are grown in the old way without chemicals. So the barley, the hops and the malt for his little brewery are all organic.
He brews a range of beers which reflect his own tastes, different from the general run, lighter and with flowery or fruity flavours. He makes a lager, a white beer, a bitter, an IPA and a brown ale.
You can buy them at his brewery on the farm or in several local outlets: La P'tite Boutik in Vasles, Aux Petits Bonheurs , La P'tite Mousse or from the V and B in Parthenay.
Simon has a stall every Wednesday in the Parthenay market hall
If you are holding a party then the lager, the white and the IPA are all available in 20 litre barrels with tap.
Simon's 17 hectare farm has 2 hectares sown with barley and a small area of hops and the rest is pastureland which he uses for hay and for the sheep to graze. The sheep are reared naturally by the ewes and then move from milk to grass. Even in winter they are out every day but go back under cover at night during the lambing season.
Simon sells packs of lamb directly from the farm and can deliver by arrangement. In a half or whole lamb pack you have a mixture of different cuts, vacuum packed and ready to freeze. The average weight of a whole pack is 20-25Kg
