AU COCORICO
For a comfortable stay in a beautiful, peaceful area. Only 40 minutes to Puy du Fou and 75 minutes to Futuroscope or the seasideDescription
Right in the Country The gîte is on a hill, from the lounge window you look out over a wooded valley, at the bottom is the little stream which later becomes the Vendée river. In front of you there is a field with fruit trees (help yourself according to the season) To the left is the natural swimming pool (8m x 4m, cleaned by plants), a paved terrace with sun loungers, parasols and tables, a children’s playground with sand underfoot and a kennel where you can safely leave your dog if you go out for the whole day. At the neighbouring farm they raise rabbits and cows and my neighbour is very happy to show his animals to visitors who are interested. We are 4 km from L’Absie where there is a supermarket, a baker, a chemist, two banks, a post office and a newsagent/tobacconist. There are also restaurants, bars, a tea room, a doctors’ surgery, a dentist and a vet. If you are energetic, you will find maps and directions for several walks. They start at 2km for an evening stroll with the dog and go up to proper hikes of 14 or 15km. Dogs are welcome and there is a kennel for them if you go out for the day. There are maps of cycle rides too, several using the nearby Green Route to avoid traffic. (the bikes in the barn are yours to borrow for free and there is secure storage for your own bikes) There is also a selection of mountain bike trails. Most of these maps are for walks starting at the gîtes but there are some which describe trails and paths in nearby areas, for a change of scenery!
Small but comfortable The kitchen is very well equipped, there is even a dishwasher, a pressure cooker, a food processor and a wok (the three washing machines and the tumble dryer are in the barn). The bathroom has a shower as well as a bath and washbasin. There is a separate toilet with handbasin. The TV has an inbuilt DVD player and there is a selection of adult and children’s DVDs as well as magazines and books. The first bedroom has a double bed, a single bed, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a hairdryer. The second has bunk beds, hanging space and a cupboard. The ceiling is low so it is most suitable for children. Every room has a fan, and electric heating. On the private terrace is a table, chairs, parasol and barbecue.
You won’t be bored! At La Chandurière you can relax by the side of the pool, the children can play in the sand, or on the swings and slide. An evening game of boules is always popular. If it rains, you can play table tennis, darts, pool or table football in the barn. There is a cupboard full of games and another stacked with jigsaw puzzles, a table and a foldaway puzzle board. There is a ‘Cosy Corner’ but to get to it you have to limbo under a low beam! Not too far away you can find out what it was like to be at school in the last Century (Tour Nivelle). Or learn about ostriches and buy some steaks (Sèvre Autriches). If you are fit you can swing through the trees at Accrobranche. Why not try the go-karts or immerse yourself in medieval life at St Mesmin Castle with games, dances and battles? The Vendée coast is 90 minutes away with a choice of lovely beaches and the fascinating ports of La Rochelle and Rochefort. Futuroscope, a fantastic day out, is 75 minutes away. Or for a more peaceful visit, you can go to the Marais Poitevin (40 minutes) where you can hire a flat-bottomed boat. It is a region full of history. You can visit the medieval parts of several towns, old castles, magnificent churches or spend an unforgettable day (or two) at Puy du Fou, for dramatised history (40 minutes away). Deux-Sèvres is nicknamed the Festival Centre. In the summer there are festivals featuring games, jazz, art, theatre and dance. In June, Bressuire hosts the World Championships of the Highland Games and the Historic Cars Grand Prix. There are displays of painting, sculpture and photos. Also fayres, open air cinema, competitions and concerts. When you are here, try local foods and visit the local markets – we make very tasty things! The refundable damage deposit is 200€ and the taxe de séjour is 90c per adult per night. You can use the local currency (Gatinelles) to pay for your stay.
